Garden Liaison Program

Starting a community garden can be daunting and very rewarding. One of the most important factors in a successful community project is community support. Louisville Grows has created a program to give exactly this kind of support to gardens looking to get off the ground this year. What we need to make this work is volunteers, and not just your average volunteer, but someone who will be dedicated to a garden throughout the season.
This person is most valuable to the garden. A Garden Liaison will guide a specific garden from the time of breaking ground into early fall where you will make sure the last of the vegetation has been harvested and ground cover has been spread. There will be a group from each facility who will be working and maintaining their garden so all the work will not rest on you but will include the following:
- Help plan and build the garden
- Maintain communications with the garden group at least once a week
- Provide support to the garden, ie watering, weeding, etc
- Attend all Garden Liaison meetings
- Helping coach the garden center throughout the seasons on different issues that arise
- Prepare the garden for winter and the following season
- Organize volunteers as necessary
Other garden volunteers
- People who wish to only volunteer with the initial setup and planting
- People who wish to volunteer at various times through the season
You do not need to have extensive knowledge on gardening as we will be teaching you everything you will need to know throughout the summer at the Garden Liaison meetings, so please do not be shy. Volunteering is a great way to learn something new and a great way to give back to the community you live in and love!
Our first meeting will be at 1622 Fernwood Ave on March 7th from 6-7pm. This is for all who are interested in volunteering with us through the summer.
