Community Garden Program
Home > Sustainable Agriculture > Garden Program
Applications are Currently Closed – Check back next season!
Requirements:
Neighborhood/Community Garden:Â must host at least 3 separate gardeners and have permission to use or privately own the land.
Schools: must have a teacher willing to oversee and maintain the garden through the fall and spring with support from the faculty. Indoor activities are available for the winter.
Faith-Based Community Center:Â must have a volunteer who is willing to oversee and maintain the garden through the season.
We will help find some funds and donations but cannot be responsible for the full garden start-up cost. Our main resource available to you is our volunteers, institutional knowledge, and Garden Liaison program. Each garden selected will be assigned a Garden Liaison, a devoted volunteer trained to help in every aspect of gardening education, garden planning, maintenance, and harvesting.
If possible please have your soil tested ahead of time. This will help us assess the need for raised beds. The cheapest place for this (we know, we’ve been around the block) is the University of Massachusetts – http://www.umass.edu/soiltest/
We look forward to working with everyone and enjoying the harvest together!
