Louisville Grows invites the public to attend the dedication of a Little Free Pantry on Friday, January 26th at 12:30pm in front of their Healthy House community center at 1641 Portland Avenue, Louisville KY 40203. The event will also be live-streamed on their Facebook page.
“Food security is a huge issue for many people in Louisville,” said Cody Moran, Healthy House Coordinator and Community Outreach volunteer. “Little Free Pantries are a way for neighbors to help neighbors by giving and receiving food anonymously. Canned goods, hygiene items, diapers, coffee, tea…these are all things we expect to see fly off the shelves. We’re really excited that-as an organization whose mission includes helping folks start gardens and urban farms–we’ll also be able to offer vegetable seeds and, as our community gardens begin producing, fresh vegetables later in the year!”
This is a second life for this Little Free Pantry. The pantry was originally created and installed by Lindsey Hoehn at A Yarn Crossing on Frankfort Avenue. When the bricks-and-mortar store closed recently, she donated the Pantry to Louisville Grows and volunteers refurbished it for the Portland neighborhood’s use.
